The English Couple Who Went Up A Hill…

On one of our recent sunny and warm days, Rob and I decided to pop our trainers on and go for a walk up a hill! We drove over to Cley Hill which is close to Warminster in Wiltshire. It’s not really a challenging hike unless you want it to be, there are steep parts and easy parts so it’s up to you which way you go to get to the top of the 240m hill.
It’s known for it’s slopes and it’s (somewhat strange) history, and apparently has beautiful flowers in the summer so we’ll have to go back and see those! We enjoyed the walk and the views of Wiltshire and Somerset. On the way back down we also met a couple of lovely Labradors so I just had to give them a cuddle!

Legend has it that the hill was formed by the devil, when he dropped a sack of earth with which he had planned to bury the town of Devizes. Apparently he got the earth from Somerset and on his way to Devizes he stopped and asked an old man the distance to get there. The old man told him he’d been walking for years to reach Devizes, so the devil abandoned his plan!

It’s also known as an unofficial UFO sighting spot (yup they’re a weird bunch out here!)! Over the last 40 years UFO spotters go up here to see what strange lights they can find. Turns out, Warminster also has a National Reporting Centre for UFO’s so if anyone sees anything weird, they don’t have to go far to report it!

I’m sure it’s completely unrelated that it’s extremely close to the military training area on Salisbury Plain…ahem…yup nothing to do with any supposed UFO sightings at all…

Anyway! On to some pictures!

We didn’t see anything strange while we were up there, except for the big yellow thing in the sky that we hadn’t seen around these parts in ages!

Thanks for reading!
