A Song For Your Saturday

I have had this little blog for just over a year now, and recently I have been feeling¬†like it’s time for a change. The free WordPress blogs are great but can also be quite limiting regarding what you can and can’t do, with themes etc. I’m craving more control and freedom to run my small corner of the web my way.

SO! A change is on the horizon…soon I hope! I’ll keep you posted!

With the theme being ‘change’ today there was only one choice for the weekend song! Seal’s cover of A Change Is Gonna Come

I’m a huge fan of this song…and that incredible voice of his, enjoy!

Have a fabulous weekend!

The Liebster Award

How great would it be to have one of the blogs you love, nominate you for a blog award? Well it’s happened to me 3 times now and I am brimming with gratitude about it!

A massive Thank You to Aisha from The Hashtag Generation¬†for nominating me for the Liebster Award! Her blog instantly became one of my favourites when I discovered it and if I could, I would definitely nominate her for this award¬†myself! Check out her blog if you haven’t already because you need it in your life!

fleur-de-liebster

Here are the rules to go along with the Liebster Award:

1. Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog.
2. Display the award on your blog – by including it in your post and/or displaying it.
3. Answer questions about yourself, which will be provided to you by the person who nominated you.
4. Provide random facts about yourself.
5. Nominate blogs – that you feel deserve the award – who have less than 200 followers
6. Create a new list of questions for the blogger to answer.
7. List these rules in your post. Once you have written and published it, you then have to inform the people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it.

My Nominees for the Liebster Award:

Alexcellent! ~ Written by Alex, who used to work for Smash Hits magazine in Australia, Alexcellent! is a hilarious blog about pop-culture, parenthood, things to try, baking and the joy in the ordinary.

Duchess-at-Large¬†~¬†I have an obsession with royals, as I’m sure a lot of us do, and Anna over at Duchess-at-Large indulges us in that obsession frequently. Keeping us up to date on all their goings on and allowing us to drool over pictures of William and Kate as often as possible!

Harp On Life ~ This blog is written by three lovely girls, Erika, Gena and Caroline. They write about food, health, fashion, and the moments that inspire and make up their very different lives.

In the Heart of Laughter ~ ‘An enthusiast of all things positive and optimistic’.¬†Elena writes this very honest and inspiring blog. With brilliant quotes, and great posts such as her letter to Lupita Nyong’o in response to her speech on beauty, you will be glad you found In the Heart of Laughter.

So, on to the questions for me to answer!

1. When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
It changed every day, but a teacher was definitely on the list¬†(so was a postwoman!).¬†There were a lot more random things I’m sure, and I’m actually still trying to figure it out!

2. What is your favourite TV Show currently on air (i.e still has episodes airing/will have a new season in the coming year)?
Anyone that knows me knows I could never pick just one ūüėÄ My favourites at the moment are Scandal¬†(which I just started watching, and love!),¬†Game of Thrones, Mad Men, and¬†Fargo. Not sure if¬†Fargo¬†will have more than one season but it’s definitely on my list as far as this season goes!

3. What is the most played song on your Itunes library?
Looking on there it appears to be You and I by Lady Gaga! I do love a good sing-a-long to that one I have to say!

4. What Hogwarts house do you believe you should be placed in and why?
I’m going to go with Ravenclaw for this one. We’d all love to be in Gryffindor of course but I’m definitely not brave enough for that! I’m a massive book lover and enjoy learning new things which are apparently Ravenclaw traits, as well as avoiding conflict and having no patience for the close-minded. That is definitely me.

5. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would¬†say the United States, to do a road trip around the country with Rob. Not really one specific place but I’m cheating a little!

6. If you could spend 1 hour with any person – living, dead or fictional – who would it be and why?
This one is easy, I would choose my Mum. To spend another second with her would be amazing. There is so much I want to tell her, huge hugs I want to give her, and just to be with her again would be everything.

7. What’s the last book you read?
The last book I read was Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. I really enjoyed it and can see why it won awards and was selected as one of the top 10 books of 2013 by the editors of the New York Times Book Review.

.
Random Facts About Me:

~ I straightened my curly hair every day for about 10 years…some of my friends didn’t even know I¬†had curly hair!
~ I have a strange hybrid accent, combining British and Canadian. Everywhere we go I sound like I’m¬†“not from around here”.
~ No matter how full I am, there is always room for dessert.
~ Rob and I enjoy changing the lyrics to songs to something that we find hilarious, then rarely sing the original lyrics ever again.
~ Every few months I attempt to like olives…and every few months I’m reminded that I hate olives
~ I feel really smart whenever I get a pointless answer on the quiz show ‘Pointless‘.
~ I’ve never been stung by a bee

.
Here are my questions for my nominees:

1. If there was a movie about your life, who would play you?
2. What is your favourite book and why?
3. Where would your dream vacation be?
4. What is your favourite season and why?
5. If you were a super hero what power would you have?
6. If you could pass a new law, what would it be?
7. What is your favourite movie of 2014 so far?

Thank you again to Aisha for nominating me! Make sure you check out her blog¬†along with the others that I’ve nominated! They’re fab!

Sunshine Award!

sunshine-award

So waaaaaay back in October Donna from Donzwebb¬†nominated me for a¬†Sunshine Award! ¬†I’m not sure what’s taken me so long to post about it but better late than never I hope! ¬†So let’s get to it:

The rules are:

1. Include the Sunshine Award icon in your post
2. Link to the blogger who nominated you
3. Answer 10 questions about yourself
4. Nominate 10 other bloggers to receive the award
5. Link to your nominees and let them know you nominated them.
6. Answer the 10 questions at the bottom and create 10 questions for your nominees to answer.

1. What’s the most difficult thing you’ve ever experienced and how did it change you?
This was a hard one to answer and is probably the reason I’ve waited so long to post this as my family was going through a lot when I got this nomination back in October.
In August, while Rob and I were in Vancouver, we found out my Mum had a cancerous tumour in her bladder and had to go through major surgery, this news coming just two weeks after finding out my cousin was diagnosed with breast cancer.
We had been thinking about coming back to England once Rob’s visa was up at the end of November, but with this news the decision was made for us and we left Canada in the middle of October. ¬†Going to work during my last 2 weeks knowing my Mum was sick and would be going in to hospital soon was extremely difficult, being so far away with an 8 hour time difference didn’t help. ¬†When we arrived back in the UK she had had the operation and had already been in hospital for over a week. ¬†She stayed there for a few more days then was finally allowed to come home with us. ¬†She has been back now for a couple of months but her recovery continues. ¬†It’s been a big adjustment for all of us and her life has been forever changed. ¬†It’s hard watching someone you love go through something like this and not knowing what you can do to help. ¬†Hopefully 2014 has some happier times in store for our family!

2. What’s the number one thing on your bucket list?
We’ve managed to travel quite a bit in the last 4 years and see almost everything on our list. ¬†I’d have to say that at the top of the list at the moment would be to go to New York with Rob. ¬†I’ve been once before when I was young and would absolutely love to return with him!

3. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging last year around the end of October. ¬†We were about to move from England back to Canada and I wanted a place where my family could easily follow what we were up to. ¬†I couldn’t really believe it when people I didn’t know started reading! ¬†I’ve really enjoyed documenting our lives over the last year and discovering new people and getting to see their experiences.

4. If you could witness any historical moment, which would you choose?
There are so many amazing historical moments to choose from that I couldn’t possibly narrow it down! ¬†I’ll have to go with one close to home and be a bit selfish and say my parents wedding day!

5. If you could meet one person in the world who would it be and why?
This is a difficult one!! ¬†I think I’ll go with Oprah because I feel like an hour with Oprah and she’d be able to make you realize your dreams and get you to be motivated to do anything! ¬†She just seems really inspiring and great at getting the best out of people. ¬†If not Oprah then Prince Harry, for obvious reasons¬†(I’m interested in learning about the Monarchy of course! ūüėČ )

6. What sound do you absolutely love?
Laughter, pretty much anyone’s…well almost!

7. Best book you’ve ever read?
This is a toss up between To Kill A Mockingbird and Lovely Bones.  They are both amazing and I can read them again and again and still love them.

8. If you won the lottery today, what is the first thing you would do?
Probably give my family the best Christmas ever! ¬†I’d also fly my brother over from Whistler to join us!

9. Favorite vacation spot?
I’d have to say Banff because Rob and I met there and it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world, in our opinion anyway! ¬†We love it there.

10. What was the last movie you watched that made you cry?
I think it was Captain Phillips.  The last 10 minutes of that film really had me going!!  Tom Hanks you get me every time!

Those questions were difficult Donna! ¬†Thanks so much for nominating me when you did and I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to actually post this.

The past few months have been far from easy for my family so I’ve tried to keep the blog as lighthearted and happy as I could. Question number 1 up there kept putting me off doing this post, but I feel happier now that I’ve let you all know what’s been going on over the last few months!

Now I’m going to nominate 10 other bloggers for the Sunshine Award! ¬†Here are my nominations:

Cappy Writes

Elizabeth Karlsson

52 Miles Per Month

Izzie’s Beauty Blog

Thingsjamielikes

Just nice stuff.

First World Beauty Problems

A Life Less Organised

Merveille Reve

Joannaloves

The 10 questions for my nominees are:

1. What’s the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
2. What’s something most people don’t know about you?
3. If you could try out any job for a day, what would you like to try?
4. What’s the best decision you’ve ever made?
5. What accomplishment are you most proud of?
6. Who would play you in a movie?
7. If you could visit any country in the world, where would you go?
8. If you could have tea with one fictional character, who would it be?
9. What is your favourite movie?
10. If you could give your younger self one piece of advice what would it be?

Getting this nomination meant a lot to me so thank you Donna!

And thank you for reading!
